What applies to Wizz Air cancellations?

If your Wizz Air flight was cancelled and you arrived more than 3 hours later than planned, you are generally entitled to compensation.

If you were notified of the cancellation less than 7 days before departure, you are entitled to compensation if you arrived more than 2 hours after the original time.

If the cancellation happened more than 14 days before your flight, you are still entitled to a refund, but you are generally not eligible for compensation.

Extraordinary and non-extraordinary circumstances

You can only get compensation from the airline if the delay or cancellation was not due to extraordinary circumstances - events beyond the airline's control.

Non-extraordinary circumstances (entitles you to compensation):

  • Technical problems with the aircraft

  • Staff shortages or internal strikes at Wizz Air

  • Planning errors in Wizz Air operations

Extraordinary circumstances (not eligible for compensation):

  • Bad weather (e.g. storm or fog)

  • Security threats such as terrorism or political unrest

  • Airspace restrictions

  • Strike among air traffic controllers

As a passenger, it can be difficult to assess whether you are entitled to compensation - especially if the reason is unclear. At Refundmore, we investigate all flights and check if Wizz Air is trying to avoid paying compensation without a valid reason.
